Premium quality at Secco thanks to a METTLER TOLEDO density meter

Shanghai Secco Petrochemical Co., Ltd. is a joint venture by China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation and BP Chemical East China Investment Co., Ltd. The company produces basic chemicals such as ethylene, propylene, vinyl cyanide and benzene. Most of them require density determination as an important quality control parameter.

Checking for superior quality

“What we are concerned about is not how long the measurement process will last, but accuracy of the result.” says Lu Ping, Chemical Analysist in the Secco lab. “Every week, we will check our instruments with reference standards in order to ensure troublefree operation. The check function of our METTLER TOLEDO density meter allows testing the instrument in a most convenient way, before actual sample testing begins.”

Operator safety thanks to automation units

Secco puts great importance on worker safety, which can be seen all around the factory. Visitors have to undergo health and safety training, operators are required to follow safety procedures aimed at protecting them and standard operating procedures are available for chemical and instrumentation handling. Secco’s vision is that there should be “no accident or human injury”. Most of Secco’s samples are liquid, highly volatile and potentially harmful to operators. The three Mettler Toledo’s DE45 densimeters in Lu Ping’s lab are therefore equipped with SC1 and SC30 automatic sample changers. Lu Ping says, “The purpose of equipping the densimeters with Mettler Toledo’s automatic sample feeder is not only to improve productivity, as we do not test such a large quantity every day. Automatic sample changers minimize contact of the operator with the sample; hence protect lab personnel from dangerous chemicals. This is the main reason we use sample changers.”

Undoubtedly Secco places heavy emphasis on the quality of their instruments and look after them very well. After three years of continuous usage the METTLER TOLEDO density meters still look as good as new.
